Released in 1975 Sholay came to be the most
successful and the biggest box office hit in the history of Bollywood.
Sholay stayed on cinemas for an unbelievable period of 6 years and after
over 3 decades it is still on the minds of film lovers. Every character of
the movie created a sensation and put the stars on the absolute hieghts.
Amitabh, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jiya Bachchan, Sunjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan
all contributed to the fullest. Directed by Ramesh Sippi it was shot by
foreign cinematographers and the action scenes are still breath taking.
Music by R D Burman with the lyrics of Anand Bakshi captured the hearts and
minds of the film audiences inside and outside India.
Some interesting stuff about the movie
Amitabh Bachchan hit the skies of fame with his role as Jay Dev but
originally Shutrogin Sinha was to play the role. Shatro is said to have
regreted the miss deeply. Amitabh Bachchan got the role after Dharmendra's
recommendation.
The role of Gabbar Singh which is considered to be one the of the three most
famous villians in Hindi cinema, Doctor Dang and Mogambo being the other
two, was due to be played by Danny.
